Service Description:
Our Joint Response Vehicle responds to calls where there is a mental health concern, providing alternative transport to an ambulance or police car for people who may need help with their emotional health.

The service can be accessed by individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, as well as police officers, ambulance or rapid response crew and carers who believe someone is experiencing a mental health crisis.

The JRV is our response to the national ambulance transformation agenda set out as part of the NHS Long Term Plan.

This approach reduces pressure on emergency services and unnecessary deployment of ambulances. It also:

supports Section 136 and Mental Health Act conveyancing
gives access to crisis from the local community
helps the police to assess mental health needs in the community
supports transport between NAViGO sites for inpatients
proactively prevent unnecessary detention under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act
supports home-based crisis assessments where appropriate
supports joint assessment with internal and wider external teams
Police and ambulance staff can download posters to promote the service by heading to the Media Centre.
