Our Practice Nurses use an appointment system except in an emergency. They also triage calls from patients.

Our Receptionists will advise you whether you need to make an appointment or ring back to speak with the Nurse.

In addition we can offer appointments

• for Medical Examinations, HGV and PSV medical examinations, Post Natal examinations and Minor Surgery with the Doctor and Nurse
• for blood tests, BP checks, height and weight measuring and new patient registration checks with the Nurses.

• All antenatal checks are held at the clinic at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital.

Their role is to ensure that patients enjoy a healthy and trouble free pregnancy and have regular clinical monitoring and advice.

Health visitors are based at Child Health Centres but they also work with the GP practice to support families.

Post-natal care

This service is provided by the practice team, involving the Doctor, and nurse. Their role is to ensure that mother and baby receive the post natal care they deserve and to answer any queries they may have. The health visitors also provide a vital role in this period for both mother and child with advice and regular monitoring up to the age of 5 years. We also provide help via referrals to Child Health Services at NELCTP.

The team give continuing care with Post-natal examination and follow-up. The midwife visits at home and provides maternal and neonatal clinical care, support and advice. The Health Visitor is available to provide holistic maternal and family support and to advise on the physical health and development of the children.

Community Midwife: The Midwife sees patients at the nearest Child Centre to our surgeries by referral from the Practice. They also attend patients in their home after delivery. They give routine screening advice and will refer patients to the maternity hospital for a 12 week scan.

Health Visitor: Post-natal home visiting is available to parents from the 12th day after delivery. Development Assessments and Health Promotion advice is offered to all children at the age of 6 weeks, 7 months, 24 months and 42 months.

Doctor: The doctor is available to all ante-natal and post-natal parents if they have any problems. An appointment can be made in the normal way either by telephoning or calling into the surgeries. Post-natal examinations are completed by the doctor as required by making a routine appointment via the receptionist.
