Service Description:
What is advocacy?
Children’s advocacy is about us helping you to speak out to people and professionals speaking out on the best interests of children and young people to protect children’s rights.

Why does the advocacy service exist?
We understand how challenging it can be for the children involved in social care to have your voices heard. We also know that sometimes our processes can feel strange and scary.

That’s why we offer Children and young people access to trained independent advocates who work with children that need support. Independent Advocates support and help Children and young people to talk about their views at their child protection conferences or children looked after review.

Alternatively advocates can speak on behalf of Children and young people if they don‘t feel confident enough. This means their views can be heard by the professionals who make decisions on their future care arrangements.

What to expect when you meet an advocate
Independent advocates are there to meet with the child and support them to talk about the kinds of things they want the professionals involved in their care to know about.

This could be how they feel about things at home, relationships with parents, brothers, sisters and friends and how they are getting on at school. This all helps the professionals involved to understand their views and what they would like to happen in the future.

Who are the advocates?
Our independent advocates are from NYAS (National Youth advocacy Service) and are trained and are DBS checked.
