| Service Description: | Our maxillofacial team diagnose and treat diseases affecting the mouth, jaws, face and neck.
Our team cares for patients with minor, as well as major, problems affecting the mouth, jaws and face. We are an important referral resource for surrounding dental and medical practitioners. We operate as an arm of Humberside Maxillofacial Consortium with headquarters at Hull Royal Infirmary. Major surgery for mouth cancer and serious maxillofacial injuries is undertaken in Hull where our department has a dedicated ward and a trained nursing team. Most emergency care will be undertaken in Hull with elective surgery lists continuing in our local hospital.
We have an expert consultant-led team able to offer extensive treatment options to all our patients on site. We offer the full range of services as defined by the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. and are also able to provide outpatient and inpatient surgical care for patients with varying underlying medical problems.
Specialist services and procedures undertaken locally include:
Dentoalveolar surgery
Management of maxillofacial trauma
Facial skin cancer surgery
Orthognathic (dentofacial deformity ) surgery
Salivary gland surgery
Oral medicine diagnostic service
Facial cosmetic surgery.
Please note that we are not able to offer a routine dental surgery service and elective patients need to be referred either by a dental or medical practitioner.
Referrals
All patients must be referred formally, usually by their dentist and also general medical practitioners. Our consultant is also able to offer advice to general dental practitioners and general medical practitioners within the region.
